Bristol Yachts

US · 1964–1997

Rhode Island builder founded in 1964 when Clinton Pearson, co-founder of Pearson Yachts, bought the troubled Sailstar company in West Warwick and later moved into the former Herreshoff yard on Popasquash Road in Bristol. Its first-generation boats were by Carl Alberg and Halsey Herreshoff; the second-generation 'decimal' models (29.9, 35.5, 45.5 and so on) came from Ted Hood's design office. The yard built more than 4,400 boats before closing in bankruptcy in 1997.
